Shorter alternative: Salt Processing Factory Feasibility Study – Ethiopia (96,000 t/yr)
B. Short description
A 70-page anonymized feasibility study for a 96,000-tonne-per-year iodized salt processing and packaging plant near Addis Ababa, sourcing raw salt from Lake Afdera. It covers the Ethiopian salt market, demand and supply to 2034, competitors, standards, plant and machinery, input and utility requirements, staffing, a 10-year financial model with NPV and IRR, and socio-economic benefits. Supplied as an editable Word file and a print-ready PDF.
C. Full product description
Product overview
This study assesses a factory that washes, iodizes, dries, screens and packs raw salt into table salt, food-industry salt and industrial salt. It was prepared for a real proposed project in September 2024 and has been anonymized, corrected where the original contained clear errors, and re-edited as a reference edition. Edition notes explain what has changed since 2024 and where the original model needs care.

▪ Demand–supply gap analysis 2024–2034 and a 2023 list of 17 Ethiopian salt processors with capacity and output
▪ Itemized investment of Birr 397.25 million (2024 prices), 30/70 equity–loan structure and a quarterly loan schedule
▪ 10-year profit and loss and cash flow; reported IRR 58% and NPV Birr 798.8 million at 13%, with an indicative recalculation in Annex B
▪ Machinery list with unit costs, plant capacity calculation, and raw-material, packaging, iodate and utility requirements
Practical applications
▪ A structural template for salt, food-processing or agro-processing feasibility studies in Ethiopia
▪ A starting point for equipment, input and utility planning for a salt plant
▪ Reference material on Ethiopia’s salt sector, iodization standards and raw-salt supply from Afar
▪ Teaching and training material for project appraisal and financial modelling
File formats
Editable Microsoft Word (.docx) and print-ready PDF, A4 portrait, 70 pages including cover and front matter.
Important limitations
▪ Costs and prices are in 2025 Birr, before most of the effect of the July 2026 exchange-rate reform; they need re-quoting.
▪ Raw-salt supply from Afar was disrupted in 2023–2026 and the rules changed in January 2025; supply assumptions need checking.
▪ The original model omits salaries from operating costs and its NPV cannot be reproduced exactly. Results are retained as reported and flagged; Annex B gives an indicative correction.
▪ Several market figures (for example export volumes) have no stated source in the original and could not be verified.
